Superheroes, why do we love them?

Last week we organised another event in the “Refuge” (our weekly youth meeting) where more than 200 college students showed up. Attracted by the subject, they came to find out the truth about Superheroes as we find them in the movies and the real “superhero” Jesus Christ, the one who has the power to change lives.

Our guest speaker was Tom Price, a Tutor at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics, and an Associate Tutor at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He holds degrees in Christian Apologetics (MA) and Philosophy (BA).

An author who has written articles on film and culture, Tom has published a chapter on ‘The Matrix Redeemed: Love and redemption in the Matrix trilogy’ in Matrix Revelations: A Thinking Fan’s Guide to the Matrix Trilogy (Damaris: 2003).

Tom is also a speaker for RZIM Europe and The Damaris Trust, and was previously the Founding Editor of UCCF’s website bethinking.org. Tom’s specific interests include: meta-ethics, analytic and continental arguments for God, faith and reason, suffering, cultural apologetics and C. S. Lewis. He is passionate about mission that engages with where people really are. Tom is married to Caroline, has two young children, and they live in Oxford.
