Breaking the barriers

Here’s another story from the mission field this summer. The mission to Frata village, near Cluj began started 8 years ago, gathering mostly children from the Gypsy community. This summer, they organized a camp together with a group of children from our local church in Cluj. Mixing these two ethnic groups became a wonderful experience, dominate by love and acceptance and not by the intolerance that rules our society. Here’s what Rebeca and Corina, two young volunteers wrote about it:
“At the end of the camp I heard a phone conversation between one of our girls from Cluj and her mother. The girl was explaining her that she had a great time meeting new people and that the children from Frata are just like us, even if they are gypsies. These words made me realize how camps like this are able to break any prejudices and barriers between people and ethnic groups. It was a lesson for me…” (Rebeca, camp leader)

There are moments and people that you never forget, children that charm you with their innocence and happiness. Sometimes, we learn more from them than from any adults. They help you understand what our Lord Jesus, meant when He said that the “Kingdom of Heaven belong to such as this”. I want to have a humble and innocent spirit like them: to forgive and forget easily, to love deeper and complete, regardless of social status or skin color… (Corina, volunteer leader)
